Walking Home 2011!

Hi Walkers!!

Thank you for making this year another fantastic day, with 376 registered walkers, plus a few late comers, join us on a perfect Saturday walk.

I am always amazed at how our walkers respond and this year was no exception with 201 walkers joining us from Queenscliff, over 50% of the field.

It was also great to have a team from Outpost, swags and all, join us at the start and walk with us, in a great show of strength and support.

At present we have raised just over $15,000 which is magnificent, but we can still raise more. Remember friends and family can still donate to your walk via the on-line walk home page you created, here: Campaign & Fundrasing Page or at Salvoconnect. Let’s make one last push and see if we can raise this figure a little bit more.

The Walking Home Mission

To raise awareness and understanding of homelessness issues within the Barwon South Western region. "As we walk together, we challenge ourselves and our communities - to take ownership for understanding, improving and preventing homelessness. There is a better way. We challenge you to create it. On this journey we seek to support the creation and delivery of resources and services to prevent and end homelessness." As a cross-agency initiative, Walking Home brings together a diverse range of service providers in one voice to "bust some of the myths" around homelessness. By improving awareness about homelessness issues in the Barwon South Western region, the Walking Home team aims to set a platform for local networks, services and communities to work together. Walking Home symbolizes the partnership and commitment these agencies share in supporting, advocating and representing the most vulnerable, marginalized and disadvantaged members of our communities. At the end of their journey, the Walking Home team has homes to go to – thousands of Australians do not.
