Prayer, Voting and Food!

This Sunday, 1st August, has been designated across The Salvation Army World as an International Day of Prayer for Children. At Box Hill Salvos we will be a part of this worldwide circle of prayer and will take the opportunity in our worship services to focus our prayers for children. Come along and be a part of this time, or if you really can't make it then take some special moments during the day to pray for the children of the world and the children's ministries within our community here.

Also in our 11am service on Sunday our Junior Soldiers will be renewing their promises. It will be great to support these young members of our church family as they renew their pledge to be followers of Jesus.

We are all probably well aware of the fact that our nation is facing an election in late August. Elections are a complex business and many things guide us in the decisions that we make to cast our vote. As people of faith we need to allow our convictions about the values and priorities of the Kingdom of God be a strong guide for us. As you consider the election you may be interested in reading The Salvation Army Statements for the Federal Election 2010, the foreword to this document states: "The Salvation Army considers the 2010 Federal Election an opportunity for all Australian political parties to make a commitment to, and invest in, a truly non-partisan approach to achieving a fair and just society." And have you got your ticket to the Spit Roast and Box Hill's Got Talent on Saturday 14th August? These can be purchased at the special table in the foyer on Sunday morning (or speak to Jude Wynne or your favourite Children's ministry worker).

One last thing... thanks to James and Jan Allen and Sapphire (as well as the various hosts and chefs) for organising our Christmas in July fundraiser for Haiti. At this point funds raised stand at $3,495 - a great effort.
